2KM PolyMix range for the wind energy blade manufacture.

 

 

2KM are one of the World Wide most accomplished manufacturers in the production of metering, mixing and application systems used in the manufacture of composite blades for power generation from prevailing winds.

The systems presented by 2KM cover all aspects of component manufacture to produce the blade. These include:

All systems are available with process monitoring through flowmeters. Machines are tailored to meet application and commercial requirements. Systems are fully supported locally and globally through centres. Control systems with full help menus and diagnostic tools enable fast response to any problems.

The */PolyMix/* machine ranges are systems manufacture to give a long work life in a tough production environment. Each system is tailored to meet material and application requirements presented by the customer. The systems have been used in the production of blades since 2004 with the original units still in production. Proudly we can say: "No metering machine has bonded more blades."

The */PolyMix/* machines have been manufactured for both epoxy and polyurethane adhesives and have proven both robust and reliable.

There are two versions available for adhesive dispensing at different flow rates of the high viscosity adhesives, which utilises the 2K1000 or the 2K2000 series. Both systems draw material from 205 litre drums and can either be static for centralised dispensing for bucket filling or manoeuvrable for application directly onto the blade.

All 2KM systems are monitored and controlled using the latest technologies. These cover the in house manufactured, microprocessor controller or customer specified PLC units of there choice. All programmes are written to maintain the security of application parameters and giving application information to the customer.

The */PolyMix 1000/* and */2000/* units have been specifically manufactured for high viscosity materials, which can be pumped at flow rates up to 28 kg/min. The system is based around independently driven, large capacity gear pumps running at low speed. This format allows filled materials to be processed and controlled easily and quickly.

The metering system is fed directly from the open top drum using progressive cavity pumps mounted on a three-post ram system. The ram press ensures the material is pressed into the transfer pump giving full efficiency and positive loading.

The transfer pumps are driven by inverter controlled AC motors and pressure monitoring maintains system pressures at all times. For low viscosity hardeners a 205 litre bunghole pump is used to feed the materials to the metering system. Again all the levels in the supply containers are monitored and controlled to give a seamless operation of the adhesive.

The system can be built onto a chassis for static applications or with castors for direct dispensing to the mould. Again the transfer pump sets can be tailored to meet the application requirements with up to 4 pumps being available.

The metering of the materials is carried out by high precision gear pumps driven by inverter controlled AC motors. These pumps are monitored by in line flowmeters fitted at their outlet. This provides a feedback loop to ensure the application criterion is met and maintained on all occasions.

From the flowmeters the on ratio materials are transferred to a swing arm and the static mixing head. Here the ratio of the materials can be sampled and confirmed. The use of static mixers allows the materials to be processed without additional energy enabling the full open time of the material to be utilised.

The */PolyMix 1000/* system is sized for outputs adjustable to 10 kg/minute with the larger drive system */PolyMix 2000/* unit has been metering and controlling materials at 20kg/min.

Either the microprocessor based 2KM controller or a proprietary PLC controls the */PolyMix/* series. Features of these units include ratio monitoring and control, specific gravity programme so data displayed is by weight as well as a full and comprehensive help and diagnostic menu.
