2KM ResinMix range for the wind energy blade manufacture.

2KM are one of the World Wide most accomplished manufacturers in the production of metering, mixing and application systems used in the manufacture of composite blades for power generation from prevailing winds.

The systems presented by 2KM cover all aspects of component manufacture to produce the blade. These include:

· ProcessGearMix Laminating epoxy dispensing for mould manufacture

· PolyTool Epoxy tooling paste for master manufacture

· PowerSpray EP and PU gel coat

· ResinMix Polyurethane paint spray for finishing

· PolyMix ResinMix for Resin infusion and hand layup

· ProcessFlowMix PolyMix for application of assembly adhesives

· ProcessControlMix for root bolts bonding

· PolyMix for leading edge filler

· ProcessControlMix for blade repair

As demonstrated from the above applications 2KM systems are available for every step of the manufacturing process. Utilising 2KM systems coupled with full after sales support and application knowledge puts the customer in charge of the manufacture of these structures.

Benefits of using 2KM

All systems are available with process monitoring through flowmeters. Machines are tailored to meet application and commercial requirements. Systems are fully supported locally and globally through centres. Control systems with full help menus and diagnostic tools enable fast response to any problems.

ResinMix 2C and 3C Systems Overview

ResinMix

ResinMix

The ResinMix 2C and 3C is a system to meter, mix and apply plural component, liquid materials used in the Resin Infusion Moulding or in the hand lay-up in the blade production. The unit, a 2KM ResinMix utilises precision axial piston pumps, on the B-Component and the C-Component with a magnetic clutch, to meter the material at outputs fully adjustable for applying Epoxy Resins up to 40 litres per minute. On requested the system can be supplied heated or tempered. By the mean of pressure vessels the temperature in the unit can be homogenised in a circulation. The circulation also allows in the unusual case of any error the failure search in a material saving circulation back to the pressure vessel. The ResinMix can be supplied with a material supply system from 1000 litre IBC containers via air operated transfer pumps or connected to a central feeding line. The transfer pumps come complete with a bubble detector on the material feed to stop the machine when the supply system is empty.

The unit utilises two or three independently driven, axial displacement metering pumps to apportion the materials. The metering system is based around independent drive to each metering pump giving infinitely variable metering ratio between 1:1 and 8:1 parts by volume. Optional pressure vessels can be used for a constant positive pressure to the metering pumps. Each pump is fitted with plate drive to enable the volumetric discharge to be adjusted to suit the material ratio and flow rate if required. On the outlet of the pump pressure transducers and non-return valves are fitted. At the pump outlet high pressure precision flow meters will be fitted to report actual material flow back to the control system to ensure correct monitoring of the materials at all times. A closed volume controlled loop readjusts the metering pumps speed if needed in free adjustable tolerances.

From the metering pumps the material travels through a hose package to a static mixer head on a movable frame. This allows the flexible use of one machine at different points of application. The product enters the disposable mixer via air operated inlet valves.

The ResinMix is monitored and either controlled by a powerful microprocessor based system or based on a Siemens PLC. The control systems monitor all of the machine functions acting upon information entered by the operator or supervisor.

These control functions include material ratio, flow rates, potlife, and all other variables associated with the materials and the process. The System also enables the specific gravity of the product to be entered allowing the screen and all control functions to mirror the material data sheet.

The processing data for the product is entered via a user-friendly panel complete with various displays and a full help menu with recommended settings. Once the data has been entered the information can be stored in different memories on the controller base. These programmes can be recalled at a touch of a button and transferred to the operating memory. This function would enable a series of outputs to be entered and quickly recalled without the need to reprogram.
